Get ready for an awesome time at Jura Mountains

Jura is just the perfect place to travel with your friends. There are a lot of places you can have fun together and engage in outdoor activities. You can visit the massive Chaux forest which is the second largest forest in the whole of France. It is located in the west of the famous Jura Mountains. Apart from the forest’s potential for timber, it has a strong presence that seems to never end. Its entire area is 204 square kilometres.

When you have had your fill of the Chaux forest, you can visit the impressive waterfalls of Tufs au Planches. It is stunning, not because of the size, but because of its breathtaking beauty. Finding the cascade is a mini adventure in itself. If you and your friends are adventurous, this is the ideal place to spend your afternoons.

A site with amazing History

The Royal Saltworks, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is situated in Jura. It is a historical building in Arc-et-Senans, close to the Chaux forests.

Some of the notable figures who lived on Jura Mountains include Louis Pasteur who lived in Dole and Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle who lived in Lons-le-Saunier. Louis Pasteur was the biologist renowned for discovering the microbes responsible for souring alcohol. He also came up with the process of pasteurization which involves rapidly heating beverages to destroy bacteria. Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle is known for writing La Marseillaise, the national anthem of France.

Jura is not only for sightseers; it is also the home of the delicious Morteau sausage. You can stop for a bite after your exhaustive hikes to the mountains.
